According to Vishnu Purana and Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapurana, Bali, the grandson of Prahlad was a great king of the demons. With a resolution of dethroning Indra as the king of heaven, Bali organized a hundred Ashwamedha Yagyas. On the appeal of Indra, Lord Vishnu decided to stop the hundredth Ashwamedha Yagya of Bali and arrived there in the guise of Vamana (a dwarf Brahmin) and begged him to donate land measuring three steps. In two steps, Lord measures entire earth and heaven. Since there was not room than to put the third step, Bali offered his head for the Lord to put his third step. Thus, Lord Vishnu sent Bali direct to the Paatal & offered him to rule the Whole nether World. With the touch of the Lord's foot, Bali's earthly body converted into Gem stones.
Bali body parts converted into different kinds of minerals and felt all over at different landmasses, sea, and mountains.
Vajra or Heera or Diamond: It originated from the pieces of Bali's brain.
There are different kinds of diamonds on basis of colors like Green, white, yellow, black, purple, pink, brown. These colored diamonds contain impurities that cause their color. A pure diamond that contains very fewer impurities is often transparent.
According to Garuda Purana, diamonds with crack or a broken diamond, which contains spot in center and opaque, are not favorable to be used as a gemstone since they bring bad luck and misfortunes to the wearer. Diamond is a stone of planet Venus. There are many shreds of evidence in the history that shows the diamond have positive and adverse effects on humans. Manu diamonds like Kohinoor, Culinen, King Oiroff are very famous in human history. As per Vedic astrology, people with Ascendant house Aries should wear coral, those with Ascendant house Taurus should wear diamond. It will be beneficial for the people with Taurus as their ascendant house to wear diamond. People with Ascendant house Aries should not wear diamond and emerald. Many experts forbid even blue sapphire for these people. But they believe that if the position of Saturn is strong in the horoscope, such people can safely wear blue sapphire.
Diamond, blue sapphire, and pearl are strictly forbidden for the people with Leo as the ascendant house.

Diamond is the main stone from Navratna and is a stone of Venus hence recommended to worn on any Friday. Time of 11 a.m. on any Friday during the darker phase of the month is the most auspicious moment for wearing diamond. Diamond is especially beneficial in the silver ring. It can also be worn in the platinum ring but never in gold or other metals. Diamond remains effective for about seven years. The best quality emeralds are mined from South American countries, Columbia and Brazil. Experts in gems are inclined to say that the following types of emeralds are of good potency: Emerald that has dark green color or the color of a spring meadow, a soft glow, that is not highly complicated (referring to inclusions), hewn in different ways and appear to be stuffed with gold dust (still referring to very small inclusions); emerald that is endowed with qualities of shape, even shade all over, sufficient heaviness and shoots diffusion of light when sun's rays fall on it" (Garuda Purana, 71.12-15).
People with Ascendant house Gemini or Virgo must wear Emerald. For Ascendant house Taurus, Venus is the ruling planet of this house. It will be beneficial for the people with Taurus as their ascendant house to wear diamond. But such people may also wear blue sapphire for Saturn and emerald for Mercury. They may also go for the various combinations of these gemstones. Ascendant house Virgo: Mercury is the ruling planet of this house. Hence the people with Virgo as ascendant house must wear emerald. Some experts, however, believe that such people may also be benefited from pearl. Ascendant house Libra: Venus is the ruling planet of this house. Hence the people with Libra as the ascendant house must wear diamond. Apart from it, they may also wear and reap benefits from blue sapphire and emerald. Ascendant house Pisces: Jupiter is the ruling planet of this house. Hence the people with Pisces as the ascendant house must wear topaz. They may also wear pearl. Some experts suggest that such people may also wear ruby and emerald but the beneficial influence of these two gems is doubtful.

Emerald is the stone of Planet Mercury hence It should be worn on Wednesday. It should be worn in gold or silver but the wearing of it in bronze or an alloy of two metal gives best and quick results.  If it is worn during Ashlesha, Jyeshtha or Revati Nakshatras on Wednesday after proper worship at about 11 a.m., it proves especially beneficial. Gemstones and crystals have been worn by humans since very ancient times. They were worn as an amulet, or a talisman by the travellers during their voyages. Today, we find people wearing these crystals and gemstones studded in a finger ring, pendant or a bracelet. The wearing method have changed but not purposes and one of the most common purpose of wearing a gemstone is to attract money or wealth.

gemstones attracts money - gemsratna

In ancient times, travellers used to wear Quartz Crystal or a Chrysoberyl Crystal on their arms as an amulet to protect themselves from evil eye curse and to find wealth during their voyages. These were believed to be crystals or gemstones that bring money.
Today, there are more gemstones and crystals available that attract money and the most powerful stones to attract money are Citrine & Diamond.
Citrine is a yellow to deep golden yellow color crystal made out of the mineral family quartz. It has a very fine crystal structure and in Vedic Astrology, it is associated with planet Jupiter (Guru). However, in other ancient sciences like Feng Shui, a Citrine gemstone is considered as a crystal for money luck.
If you are planning to invest your hard earned money in a race, stock market or even in a gamble, wear a Citrine gemstone in a ring made of Gold in the index finger of your right hand. This is believed to be the money drawing stone.
Citrine can also be placed in your 'Galla' or the Drawyer in which you put your money if you have a shop or a store, it is very beneficial to put a Citrine gemstone there as Citrine is a crystal for money attraction and prevention.
Apart from this, Citrine can also be worn as a pendant, bracelet, talisman or amulets on your arm to attract wealth and to accumulate money.
Diamond is another powerful stone for money. Diamond is the hardest mineral in the earth's crust and has colourless crystal structure. In vedic astrology, Diamond is associated with the planet Venus (Shukra) and even in astrology, it is considered to be a money gemstone. Especially, it is beneficial or more effective when worn by ladies.
Diamond is considered more effective when worn in Gold metal. If you are travelling for a business trip, it is very beneficial to wear a diamond in the ring finger of your right hand to attract profit and money. The best effective diamonds are colorless and crystal clear. In the GIA grading system of Diamonds, one should prefer wearing diamond above I-Grade that is I, H, G, F, E and D.

Basra Pearl : Are You Purchasing The Real Basra Pearl From The Gemstone Market?

Pearl is one of the most beautiful secrets of the ocean. It is a substance made of calcium carbonate nacre which is used by human as a gemstone since ancient times. One can find its usage mentioned in few ancient Hindu, Islamic as well as Jain texts.

In today's world, it is an important question that who should wear a pearl? Pearls are worn by people to get astrological benefits and it is associated with the planet Moon in vedic astrology. Moon is the lord of Cancer (Kark) Sign and hence pearl is considered to be the birthstone for people born in Cancer ascendant. Apart from this, people born with ascendants Aries (Mesh), Scorpio (Vrishchik), Sagittarius (Dhanu) & Pisces (Meen) signs can also wear a Pearl gemstone.
The next question arises in our mind is which is the best pearl for astrological purpose. So, it is a simple answer, for best astrological effects, a gemstone (whether it is a pearl or any other gem) must be formed naturally and should not be treated or adulterated in any way. Today, there are two broad categories of pearls available in the market - Cultured and Uncultured.

What is Cultured Pearl?
Cultured pearls are those which are found inside the shell of a mollusk wherein, the irritants are inserted by human. This process is called ‘Pearl farming or Pearl culturing’. Although, the formation of the pearl inside these shells occur naturally, but the irritant (which usually is of large size) are inserted by humans to get bigger pieces of pearls.

What is Uncultured Pearl?
Uncultured pearls are those pearls which are found and formed naturally inside the shell in a sea or ocean. These are way too small in size and it is very difficult to find a natural uncultured pearl of more than 3 carat. The reason is that a natural irritant that can enter into the shell of a mollusk is of very tiny size and to protect from that irritant, the insect secrets lesser nacre which results in formation of a small pearl.
Uncultured pearls are available mainly from Atlantic Oceans near Venezuela, Indian ocean near Nicobar islands and in few seas like Persian Gulf. The most beautiful and finest uncultured pearls are Basra Pearls which are extracted from this Persian Gulf region in Bahrain. The kingdom of Bahrain includes the Basra Port which actually falls under the governance of Iraq. However, the pearl fisheries were still governed by Kingdom of Bahrain. Basra Pearls are famous for their lustrous nacre and shine of their surface
Nowadays, it is very difficult to get a real Basra Pearl because after the Lebanese civil war during 1970s and 80s, the pearl fisheries in this area decreased in numbers and hence the cultivation of pearls from Basra is restricted by kingdom of Bahrain.

Here people may get curious as to how to know if it is a real Basra Pearl or not. Today, there are more than 90,000 traders globally selling pearls and most of them sell the natural uncultured pearls from any part of the world by the name of 'Basra Pearl'. However, in real, a Basra Pearl must be supported with a certificate and letter from the Kingdom of Bahrain Government certifying that the pearl is a Basra Pearl. Without this certificate, a pearl must not be considered as a Basra Pearl.

Although this is a wrong marketing technique, but considering the rarity of real Basra pearls, it is a commonly acceptable practice by people selling & buying pearls to call the pearls which are uncultured, i.e. formed naturally inside the shell of a mollusk in a sea, a Basra pearl.

About the prices of a pearl gemstone, a real Basra Pearl's cost in India starts from INR 20,000 per carat and may reach up to INR 5 Lakhs per carat for the finest quality. However, the uncultured pearls from other places traded as Basra Pearls would cost between INR 10,000 to INR 50,000 depending on the shine, shape and luster of its nacre.
